Team Project 2
Conceptual Design
Due Sunday October 23 before 11:30pm
Overview
For this second phase, your team will specify a design solution at
the conceptual level that addresses issues identified in the first
team project.
Assignment Requirements
At minimum, the project should present the conceptual design with a
list of requirements, personas and design scenarios associated with
personas. The report should document and summarize the project with
information specified in the nextsection.
You are strongly encouraged to focus on just one major issue
revealed in the discovery phase to produce a design that addresses
it.
Report Contents
Your submitted report should contain the following sections:
- Executive summary. Develop a one to two paragraph
statement that summarizes your proposed design at the conceptual level
and motivated it with a high-level overview of your report.
- Process overview. Summarize your design process
including any activities you used to develop, select and refine your
proposed design.
- Requirements. This section can be a list of requirements, typically stated with a sentence or two.
- Personas and design scenarios. Provide a summary
statement of the personas, followed by the personas and their scenarios that present the conceptual design.
- Supporting diagrams (optional). If included,
provide supporting text.
- Appendix materials. Appendix includes process
details (e.g. questions, individual notes showing proposed solutions
and other contributing materials. Also include how individuals
contributed to the project.
Team Process
The following is a recommended set of team phases and deadlines:
- Individual Review and Contribution (Friday
October 14). Individual team members should review all research from
the first project and identify an important issue that could be
addressed with a design solution. The individual works out a
scenario that presents the conceptual design and shares it with the
team.
- Design selection and consolidation. (Tuesday
October 18). Team members discuss shared design proposal and select
one or consolidate several into one.
- Integration (Friday October 21). Proposed design is integrated with personas of the previous project.
- Requirements extraction (Friday October 21). Requirements are extracted from the proposed design. This activity can be done concurrently with the integration phase.
- Finalize (Sunday October 23). Write executive summary. Edit and proofread. Submit!
Submission
Submit your report to D2L as a PDF document.
Grading
This project is worth 10% of the course grade (5% as a joint grade
and 5% as individual contributions). The following criteria will be used for scoring the report:
- Report organization and presentation. The report is well written and organized so that it is easy to find required information.
- Report completeness. The report has all required contents. You are strongly encouraged to review all requirements on this page before you submit your report.
- Process. The report shows that the proper process is followed and was based on outcomes from the first project.
- Supported findings. The origins of the requirements, personas, scenarios and any additional design materials are clearly documented.
