Domain of inquiry: handling (often unwanted or untimely) phone calls

After running the protocol (below), report your experience and any difficulties or opportunities that might produce a design (or redesign)

Protocol

  1. Informed consent
    • Can I ask you some questions about how you handle unwanted phone calls? It should take about 10 minutes
    • You don't have to answer a question if you feel uncomfortable with it. Also, I won't record your identity with any answers you provide.
    • Are you ok continuing?
  2. When your phone rings, tell me how you handle it.
  3. As needed, follow up with these prompts
    • Tell me more on how you do that...
    • Tell me how you decide to answer the phone...
    • Can you think of a case where you were not sure what to do?
  4. Would you mind referring to your phone and review recent calls? (if so...) Can you tell me how you handled recent ones?
  5. (if practical) Can you demonstrate to me what happens when you receive a possibly unwanted phone call?
  6. Do you have any other thoughts or comments?
