Conceptual Design (9.2.2, 12.5.3 in 2nd)
- May be represented with personas and scenarios
- Choice of themes and metaphors
- Process flows, inputs, outputs
- Works with requirements
- Ch. 15 in 2nd edition
- Might include information architecture (ch. 16 in 2nd edition)
Intermediate Design (9.2.3, 12.5.4 in 2nd)
- Presented in Hartson and Pyla section 9.3 (ch. 17 in 2nd)
- Commonly called Interaction Design
- Usually represented with wireframes
- Specifies screen layouts, controls and their effects
- Supports usability testing, particularly formative evaluation
Detailed Design (9.2.4, 12.5.5 in 2nd)
- Presented in Hartson and Pyla section 9.4
- Commonly called Visual Design
- Typically good for summative evaluation
- May address emotional needs (see ch. 18 in 2nd edition)
Design Refinement (9.2.5, 12.5.6 in 2nd)
- Revisions based on final feedback
