Filezilla Analysis
Application: Filezilla client (web site --- if you download, you probably want to uncheck the installations of McAfee Virus software and Opera)
Task: uploading html file to a web server
Persona: Herman is a novice at coding html files. However, he has used common desktop applications, web apps and phone apps for years, including apps that require the submission or uploading of files. He has working knowledge of file structures on desktop computers.
Scenarios: Herman edits his first html file. He knows that for others on the internet to see it, it must be moved to a web server. He has been told that he has an account on the web server students.cdm.depaul.edu and that he can use his campusconnect login id and password. After transferring the file, he figures out how to view it. He wants to make a change and update the file. A week later, he gets more feedback and wants to make another change.
Questions for Analysis
- What goals control the actions for Herman? Do they change with subsequent revisions?
- What actions are required to transfer the file? What is a useful level of granularity for analyzing each action?
- Does the mode of control change for Herman with each tranfer? Do interaction design priorities change with each transfer?
Design Analysis Questions
- Which theories are helpful for analyzing Herman's interaction?
- What does the goal stacks look like for Herman? How does it control his behavior?
- Are interruptions likely to occur? How about for more complex monitoring?
